BMW M4 (F82, 2014-2020) – performance and 0-60mph time

The M4 matches the performance of supercars from not long ago, hitting 62mph in 4.1sec and reaching 155mph. The most impressive figure, however, is a 0-100mph time of 8.6sec

Evo rating
  • Serious straight line performance; dry-weather handling
  • Can be tricky in the wet and on challenging roads

The F82 M4 is a very quick car indeed. In our own testing it managed to crack 100mph in just 8.6sec, which makes it as quick as a Ferrari F430. Cars equipped with optional DCT gearbox can hit 62mph from a standstill in just 4.1sec according to BMW's official figures – deeply respectable for a 1537kg rear-drive car. The six-speed manual version will reach 62mph in 4.3sec.

The Competition Pack cuts the time down to 4sec, with the M4 CS completing the sprint in 3.9sec. BMW claims the lightened, more powerful M4 GTS wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres can reach 0-62mph in 3.8sec. However, we recorded an even quicker time of 3.7sec and a 0-100mph time of 7.8sec.

While the F82’s power figure might not be as considerable a jump as you'd expect over the older E92 M3, the acceleration is definitely a cut above. With considerably more torque the F82 is not only faster off the line, but significantly more accelerative through the gears, which makes it feel much faster in real-world use.

A sophisticated launch control system – which the driver can adjust to suit the grip levels – helps the F83 M3 to get away from the line as quickly as possible every time. Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph in standard and Competition Pack cars, 174mph in the CS and 190mph for the GTS.
