Germans show off on home turf with new BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Porsche supercars

It wasn’t just the Italians showing an abundance of supercars at Frankfurt. The Germans had to impress on their home ground, and did so with conviction.

Mercedes garnered most of the headlines with its new Gullwing, the SLS AMG. It gets a particularly potent version of the brand’s 6.2-litre V8 engine with 563bhp as well as those rather cool doors. Read more Mercedes SLS here.

Porsche had a packed stand, with oodles of 911s to wade through. Highlights were the new GT3 RS, which also spurned the Cup racer pictured below. Honourable mention to the retro Sport Classic too, although not its £140K price tag. Peruse Porsche’s stand here.

BMW showed a startling glimpse at the future of its M Division – a diesel hybrid supercar that combines proper performance with very usable economy and emissions figures. Looks rather cool, too. Read more BMW Vision here.

Audi’s R8 starred too, with a pair of exciting new iterations to wow the crowds. The long-awaited Spyder took a bow while the eye-grabbing electric E-tron shocked with its bonkers 3319lb ft torque figure. Read more R8 Spyder and extra Audi E-tron.
