Goodwood 2009

'Epic feats of endurance' is Festival of Speed's theme

The 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed has been given a cinemtic sounding theme - 'True grit - epic feats of endurance'. It's in honour of a number of motorsport performances over the years where courage and tenacity have led to very memorable victories.

Jackie Stewart's 1968 German grand prix win, despite him suffering a broken wrist, and Mick Doohan returning to motorbike racing without full use of his right leg (which almost faced amputation) are among the examples chalked up by the organisers.

Goodwood 2009 takes place from July 3-5 with numerous stars from all ages of motorsport alongside the machinery they made famous, as well as iconic road and race cars celebrating special anniversaries - Audi, Bugatti and Morgan all celebrate centenaries, while the Mini hits its half-century. It'll be 40 years since Jackie Stewart's entrance into motorsport while Le Mans 24 hours - a race that befits 'epic feats of endurance' - will hit 60 years of continuous competition.

As usual, there'll be plenty of interaction with the famous faces there as well as a forest rally stage and Goodwood's iconic hillclimb. Once again, there'll be a technology stand showing some of the more desirable cars and visions of the future.

Lord March, the man behind the festival, said: 'it will be fabulous to have so many great cars and drivers here at Goodwood to celebrate our endurance theme for 2009. I look forward with much anticipation to seeing some of the great endurance drivers, riders and machines in action.'
