Honda Civic review - decent looks but it's no Type-R - Prices, specs and rivals

Honda’s edgy looking Civic brings plenty of style, backed up by substance.

Evo rating
RRP
from £15,970
  • Head-turning looks, reliability, good diesel engine
  • Busy looking interior, limited rear headroom

Prices, Specs and Rivals

Prices start at £15,970 for the base model, rising to £26,970 for the petrol-fuelled Tourer. That represents a saving of as much as £1600 over the previous model, taking into account the greater standard specification. The trim lines remain as previously, the range starting with S then rising through SE Plus, SR and EX, the Sport model sitting between SE and SR. Rivals include the big-selling Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Volkswagen Golf, as well as its obvious home market choices like the Toyota Auris and Mazda3.

Even base level S versions come with a generous amount of equipment including climate control, but the SE Plus model has the most comprehensive specification for most buyers, adding rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, front and rear parking sensors and electrically retractable door mirrors. Sport brings sharper looks outside, while SR and EX Plus gain a full leather interior.  SE Plus or Sport are the best choices.
