Detroit auto show in pictures – Ford GT, Honda NSX, Alfa 4C Spider and more

Here's our roundup of the Detroit auto show's biggest stars in pictures

It’s only day two of the Detroit auto show yet we’ve already welcomed the arrival of two major supercars and several high-performance machines. If Detroit’s anything to go by, 2015 is going to be an ultra-fast paced year for motoring.

To give you the low-down on the show’s biggest stars, we’ve created this Detroit mega-gallery.

Ford GT

Ford had managed to keep the GT concept’s arrival quiet right up until its unveiling in Detroit. It wasn’t until rumours of the car’s 2016 Le Mans racing presence that we could be certain the car would arrive in January.

The new car wears a sculpted aero-focused body that manages to hark back to the classic original. And with a 600+bhp turbocharged V6 under the skin, the new GT concept is a hardcore racer.

Constructed using lightweight aluminium and carbonfibre and utilising track-focused inboard pushrod suspension, this is one serious bit of kit. When it arrives in 2016 you can be sure the likes of Ferrari and Porsche will have their work cut out to ensure it doesn’t trump their forthcoming supercars, the turbocharged 458 and 911 GT3 RS.

Honda NSX

The long awaited NSX has arrived some 26-years after the iconic original. Though it shares a name, the new car couldn’t appear to be more different to the Senna influenced classic.

Harnessing power from the latest in hybrid technology, its powerplant comprises three electric motors – two of which power the front axle, one latches onto the engine to drive the rears – and a twin-turbo V6.

North of 550bhp is anticipated, being sent directly through a nine-speed DCT gearbox to blast the NSX directly into the realms of the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT. Can it top them? Rest assured Honda won’t want the new car to tarnish that legendary nametag.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Many would agree that the Alfa Romeo 4C was, and still is, one of the world’s prettiest sports cars. So this, the 4C Spider, surely has to be one of the prettiest drop-tops?

Despite losing its roof, the Spider is just 10kg heavier than the fixed-top. It gains a pair of curving rear buttresses that hold the roll-over protection but ultimately give the car updated rear lines.

The carbon-based 4C Spider weighs just 905kg and produces 237bhp from its turbocharged four-pot. We felt the hard-top’s engine lacked a little character, so hold hope that the increased aural exposure of the Spider could add some Alfa emotion.

Infiniti Q60

It might not be a supercar, it’s not even a sports car, but the Infiniti Q60 is undeniably eye-catching. Curves, pinched lines, angular headlights and bulging wheel arches, it’s got all the right ingredients to be one of the market’s most desirable offerings.

And it’ll have to be, because the Q60 will go up against BMW’s 4-series and Audi’s A5, and could even spawn a performance version to take on the M4 and S5.

The standard car features a 24-valve 3-litre V6, but if that hot version were to arrive, Infiniti could squeeze in its Nissan GT-R sourced 3.7-litre twin-turbocharged powerplant. We're crossing everything it happens.
