You’ll require £32,725 for the Q5 2-litre TFSI manual SE, while the top dog (below the £44,715 SQ5) is the 3.0 TDI S line Plus at £44,140.

SE is base trim but it boasts a lengthy list of toys – including 18-inch alloys, auto start/stop, a ten-speaker, 180W sound system, DAB, Bluetooth, cruise control, Milano leather and three-zone climate control, amongst more.

Another £2400 gets you into an S line, which upgrades the leather to Nappa while adding Xenons, sports seats, a sports steering wheel and S line exterior styling, plus 19-inch wheels and no-cost option S line Sports suspension.S line Plus is another £2500 and brings 20s, MMI Navigation Plus, an auto tailgate, metallic paint and a bit more besides. 

The main rivals are the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and Lexus NX, although this is a congested marketplace and some offerings from what might be perceived as ‘budget’ brands could be considered too.
