Audi Q5 review (2008-2017) - can Ingolstadt's best SUV challenge the BMW X3? - MPG and running costs

The Q5 is the best of Audi’s competent SUV range

Evo rating
RRP
from £32,580
  • Well-sorted chassis, stylish looks inside and out, mega SQ5
  • steering lacks feel, dynamics not as sharp as BMW X3

MPG and running costs

Economy and emissions are competitive across the range, with combined consumption starting at 37.7mpg for the manual 2.0 TFSIs and rising to 47.9mpg on the manual 2.0 TDIs. CO2 is anything between 154- and 179g/km, which puts the 2.0 TDIs into VED Band G (£180 per year), all the other Q5s in Band H (£290 year one/£205 annually thereafter) and the SQ5 into Band I on its own, at £345 year one/£225 annually thereafter. BIK rates are clustered in the 26-31 per cent ballpark, while insurance groups range from 24-41.

Audi Complete servicing can be had from anything between £18 and £59 per month on the Q5, the prices offering different levels of cover, while the standard three-year/60,000-mile warranty can be extended to either four years/75,000 miles (£535) or five years/90,000 miles (£1255). Clarification here – all these warranties are unlimited mileage for the first two years, with the mileage ceiling kicking in from year three. On a final note, the Q5’s predictably strong residual values should help offset purchase and running costs.
