New Performance Pack now available for Volkswagen Golf R
Available for both the VW Golf R hatch and estate, a new Performance Pack is now on sale in the UK.
The Volkswagen Golf R has just been given an extra bit of on-track focus via a new Performance Pack. Initially detailed at the Geneva motor show earlier in the year, the car's availability has now been confirmed by Volkswagen UK, along with final prices and specifications.
The pack consists of larger brakes, the removal of the top-speed limiter, 19-inch wheels and, on the hatch, a rear spoiler. Fitted at the factory, the pack is designed to increase the Golf’s on track capability and give the Golf R an extra visual kick.

The brakes themselves represent a 2kg overall weight saving from the standard units and feature ‘built pin disks’ that are said to improve pedal feel on track. Silver calipers, as opposed to the black units on standard Golf Rs, distinguish the new brakes.
Without a top speed limiter, the Golf R PP will also hit a claimed 165mph top speed and 168mph in estate form thanks to the slipperier shape and the lack of that rear wing. Speaking of which, Volkswagen claims that the hatch’s rear wing produces real downforce giving a 20kg figure, but at what speed this is produced is curiously not mentioned.
The Performance Pack is only available in DSG form, priced at £2300 on top of the standard car’s £33,995 base price. The price is the same on the estate.

On top of the Performance Pack, Volkswagen is also offering a titanium exhaust system manufactured by Akrapovič. Integrated into the same rear bumper but with new round outlets, the system is controlled via the Golf R’s driving mode selections, varying volume based on the desired setting.
Sold separately to the main performance package, the exhaust set up is only available on the hatch for a further £2795, making a Golf R DSG with both options a £39k+ proposition. Option-in some other popular Golf R inclusions like leather upholstery and the upgraded infotainment system and you'll nearly be at the price of the Audi RS3, a far more specialised and performance orientated hot hatch.
