evo Track Car of the Year – Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 onboard video

An exception to the "muscle cars don't handle" rule, here's how the Camaro Z/28 fared in evo's Track Car of the Year

Think track cars, and American muscle doesn’t come immediately to mind. Typically, they’re all about straight-line speed, rather than cornering prowess.

The Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is a little different. With 305-section tyres – at both the rear and on the front axle – carbon-ceramic brakes, a weight-saving air conditioning system delete and even thinner glass, it takes track performance seriously.

That’s borne out in the Camaro’s Track Car of the Year lap time, which undercut our Caterham Seven 420R by six tenths despite weighing in at 1732kg.

We’d have expected better still – it boasts a 7:37.47 time at the ‘Ring, after all – but the Camaro’s massive weight does take its toll on the tyres and brakes and Blyton Park isn’t quite as expansive as the Nordschleife.

You can ride on board with the Camaro’s lap in the video above – and stay tuned on evo.co.uk for the remaining evo Track Car of the Year videos over the next few days.

For our full Track Car video, head over here – and if you want to read the full feature, you can find it in issue 220 of evo.
