Caterham's 80bhp Seven 160 proved a fantastic track car for a beginner to learn with. Then there was the Ariel Atom 3.5R, which made us 'whoop for joy' with its pin-sharp accuracy and outlandish performance.

The Nissan GT-R Nismo also surprised, with the usual performance expected from the car turned even more extreme. Renault impressed with its 275 Trophy-R, sticking to its tradition of turning out fantastic hot hatches.
