Seat Mii FR Line - sporty styling but no extra power for Seat's city car

Seat adds two new special editions to the funky Mii range

The compact hot hatchback market is getting better all the time, with turbochargers and talented chassis giving drivers wide choice in the £20,000 bracket.

But choice lower down the market is much slimmer. Unfortunately, Seat hasn't seen fit to introduce a turbocharged Mii city car to change that, but it's spruced up the styling somewhat with a new FR Line trim level.

The Seat Mii FR Line utilises the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally-aspirated power unit as other Mii models, and indeed the mechanically identical Volkswagen Up and Skoda Citigo.

Like those models, it comes in two power outputs - with 59bhp and 74bhp, though opting for the higher output of the pair doesn't put any more torque at your disposal, with a maximum 70lb ft developed at a usefully low 3000rpm.

What performance the car has is aided further by a low kerbweight, at only 854kg. The result is a 14.4-second 0-62mph dash for the lower-powered car, and 13.2sec for the 74bhp model - at these sort of speeds, every tenth of a second counts.

In FR Line trim, the Mii gains a set of 16-inch alloy wheels and unspecified 'sporty' suspension tuning. While not quite a full-blown Cupra - nor even a proper FR model - those changes should be just enough to set it apart from the already-fun standard Mii.

Other stylistic additions include Atom Grey door mirrors, a striking set of stripes and an FR logo on the grille. Inside, you get gloss black trim on the dashboard, red accents, sports seats and an FR-badged steering wheel wrapped in leather.

It joins the fashion-led Mii by Mango in the city car range. Not so much evo as Cosmopolitan, the 750-model limited run Mango has a deep three-coat white paint finish, velvet red detailing on its intricate wheels and dashboard, and... an optional clutch bag and wool scarf.

Both models are on sale now. FR Line pricing is unconfirmed, but Mii by Mango models begin at £11,155 in three-door form.
