Porsche Macan GTS slots between S and Turbo

Porsche completes its range of driver-focused GTS models with a new Macan variant

Porsche’s lineup of driver-focused GTS models has expanded today with the launch of the new Macan GTS. In common with other models to wear the GTS moniker, the latest Macan variant is granted more power than before, tweaks to the chassis and uprated brakes – along with a host of styling features to mark it out as a model in the GTS mould.

Starting under the bonnet, changes to the Macan’s familiar 3-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 have liberated an extra 20bhp over the Porsche Macan S, with a new peak of 355bhp. Like other GTS models that’s shy of the equivalent Turbo model in the range – in this case the 395bhp Macan Turbo – but it should result in a small improvement in the Macan S’s 5.4-second 0-62mph run.

Power is sent to all four wheels via a standard seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, and Porsche’s Traction Management system. PASM – Porsche Active Suspension Management – is also standard on the GTS, along with a lower ride height than standard.

This drops the car neatly over 20-inch, matt black alloy wheels. Also matt black are the lower contrasting details on the Macan’s body, while those above the waistline are gloss black. A Sport Design styling package is standard, with its elements colour-coded specifically for the GTS. There’s a set of LED headlights up front, and at the rear, adding both visual and aural appeal, is a sports exhaust system.

Inside, standard equipment includes a set of GTS sports seats and Porsche Communication Management infotainment, while the system’s functions can be augmented further with satellite navigation and Porsche Car Connect Plus. A session at Porsche’s Experience Centre at Silverstone is also complimentary.

The new Macan GTS goes on sale in the UK from today, priced from £55,188 – around £11,500 more than the Macan S. Given our fondness for other GTS models in Porsche’s range, the Macan GTS could be well worth waiting for.
