2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup video

Porsche has fully revealed the next generation 911 GT3 Cup racing car, giving a glimpse of what the road car might look like

Porsche has unveiled its new 991-generation racing car. The 911 GT3 Cup is the world’s best-selling racecar, with 2395 examples made since its 1998 introduction. It now echoes the latest-generation road car, this 991 version debuting in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Rather than using one of the road-going 991’s direct injection engines, though, it gets an updated version of the Mezger flat-six unit seen in previous GT3s – both street and circuit versions. With the new 911 GT3 predicted to switch to a cleaner direct injection engine, it’ll be a link between road and track that’s broken. It’s 3.8 litres in size and is 10bhp healthier than its predecessor, possessing 454bhp at 7500rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed gearbox that is paddle-operated for the first time in a GT3 Cup car. The tyres are a little wider than before, up 20mm to 270mm at the front and increasing 10mm to 310mm at the rear, so increased grip levels are surely a given. The brakes have been upgraded, too, with 380mm slotted and vented steel discs featuring six-piston callipers up front, four-piston at the rear. ‘The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit,’ reckons Porsche works driver Timo Bernhard, though he assures us it’s good fun to drive, too. The 911 GT3 Cup is available exclusively in white, and costs 181,200 euros plus local taxes – around £175,000 at current exchange rates. Video of the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in action below…
