Techart 911 GTstreet R - 911 Turbo tuned to 710bhp

Power, downforce and visual tweaks for Porsche's most potent 911s

German tuner Techart has revealed its latest take on the 991-generation Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S - the 911 GTstreet R.

Combining the usual Techart visual modifications with functional components, the company has created a car that develops significant downforce and offers a serious power boost over even the hugely rapid standard Turbos.

On the structural and aerodynamic side, Techart replaces the body panels with lightweight carbonfibre alternatives, designed with functional improvements over the originals. The front splitter, for instance, features an active aerodynamic element to improve airflow to the water and oil coolers, and the central element helps to reduce lift.

The front wheel arches feature GT3-style air outlets to reduce pressure and improve brake cooling, and large carbonfibre air intakes force airflow to the engine’s intercoolers. At the rear, outlet air ducts, a diffuser and 15-degree adjustable GT-style wing further enhance aerodynamics and cooling. Overall, Techart claims 321kg of downforce at 186mph.

Various wheel and tyre combinations are available, with either 20-inch centrelock forged wheels or a 21-inch option, and putting rubber as wide as 325mm to the road on the rear axle. VarioPlus coilovers are also available (compatible with the PDDC system offered by Porsche), while that carbonfibre front splitter can be saved with a nose-lift system that raises the prow by 60mm for speed bumps or ramps.

The aero and chassis changes are admirable, but combined with Techart’s power upgrades they should result in potent performance. Currently, the company offers upgrades to 632bhp and 649lb ft of torque (standard Turbo 533bhp and 524lb ft, Turbo S 572 and 553), but will offer up to 710bhp in early 2017. Even in 632bhp trim, it’ll reach 62mph in 2.7sec (2.9 standard) and hit 210mph.

The interior too sees changes, which naturally will come down to the preference of the buyer - but one assumes any customer wishing to go for the full aero package will be happy to deck out the cabin in the full suite of sports seats, 6-point harnesses and colour-coded details...
