Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, GTS Cabriolet revealed

Porsche beefs up the 911 range with a quartet of wide-arch GTS models

Porsche’s previous 911 Carrera GTS was one of the most satisfying 911 models, a run-out special pairing a higher-power engine and rear-wheel drive with the wide body of all-wheel drive cars.

Now, there’s a new model. In fact, there are four – the new GTS comes in both Coupe and Cabriolet format, like the old car, but also offers all-wheel drive versions of each.

If you’ve not been keeping track, that brings the overall 911 tally in the UK to 20 variants. Thankfully, the GTS has plenty to help it stand out from its stablemates.

Like the previous GTS, the four new models all use the 911 Carrera 4 body, with wider flared rear arches and a wider track than standard two-wheel drive Carreras. A set of matte black, 20in centre-lock alloy wheels fill the arches while the matte black theme is complemented with smoked bi-xenon headlight units, a black intake grille below the engine lid and black chrome-plated exhaust tips.

A standard sports exhaust system ensures the tips aren’t just there for show, as do tweaks to the engine liberating nearly 30bhp extra from the Carrera S’s rear-mounted flat-six. Total power is now 424bhp, 62mph is reached in 4 seconds (4.2 for the Cabriolet) and top speed, with a seven-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, is 198mph.

Passengers get to experience this extra punch in an Alcantara-clad interior. A pair of leather-trimmed, Alcantara-faced sports seats are standard, as they are in Porsche’s other GTS models – the Cayenne GTS, Panamera GTS, Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS.

Other standard kit includes the Sport Chrono Pack with dynamic engine mounts, Porsche Active Suspension Management, a limited slip differential, 7in colour touchscreen, satnav, automatic climate control and a three-year warranty with roadside assistance.

Pricing for the GTS range starts at £91,098 for the Carrera GTS Coupe. The GTS Cabriolet starts at £99,602, while all-wheel drive Carrera 4 GTS models cost £95,862 for the Coupe and £104,385 for the Cabriolet. All are available to order today, with the first cars arriving in showrooms from during November.
