Watch - Porsche LMP1-98 Goodwood onboard

Ride up the Festival of Speed hill climb with evo's Richard Meaden in a Porsche LMP1 car

While it might not be the Porsche Le Mans car everyone is talking about right now, with the prize winning 919 hybrid still being hot off the press, the LMP1-98 WSC-95 is still an iconic race car.

Both 1996 and 1997 saw the WSC-95 take the Le Mans win. The car was then updated for 1998 with revised bodywork, aero and a bigger 3.2-litre flat 6 engine. It's the 1998 car that evo's Richard Meaden is driving here.

1998 marked the last win for Porsche at Le Mans before 2015, but it was the GT1 that claimed the prize rather than the Joest Racing run WSC-95.

In fact both WSC-95 cars suffered a DNF that year, with one facing electrical issues and another bodywork problems following a spin.

The WSC-95 used a Type-935 turbocharged flat-six, an engine that Porsche had been runnning in prototypes since the 1980s. Only two cars were ever built and here, at Goodwood, Richard is driving one of them.

If you'd like to see more onboards from the Festival of Speed, why not take a look at our run in the Cayman GT4, or alternatively, the Aston Martin Vantage GT12.
