Peugeot uprates the 908 HDi

Peugeot Sport's technical director tells us about the changes they've made to the 908 HDi for Le Mans

With only a couple of days to go before the Le Mans 24hr gets underway, Peugeot Sport's Technical Director, Bruno Famin, has been talking about the changes the firm has made to the 908 for this year’s race.

Preparations have been extensive. The 908, now in its fourth and final year of competition, has taken part in three races since last year’s 24 hour victory, and eleven test sessions, including extended simulation runs.

‘Our work initially focused on the engine and bodywork’, explains Famin. ‘The only aerodynamic change is the result of having to adjust to this year's new engine power levels. We have endeavoured to recover some of the power lost because of the rule changes, which involved improving engine combustion, reducing power losses through friction and improving the flow efficiency of the intake and exhaust systems.’

Olivier Quesnel, Peugeot Sport's Director highlighted how much Le Mans means to the team, ‘Le Mans is the greatest race in the world and we all felt a big sense of pride when we succeeded in beating Audi which has been the benchmark in endurance racing for many years.’

2010 is Peugeot’s 200th anniversary – safe to say it’ll be keener than ever to take to top step of the podium come 3pm on Sunday.
