End Of An Era At 'The Jag'

I wasn't sent to Coventry, I wanted to go. Just out of school aged 16, I moved from Cleethorpes to start a four-year apprenticeship at Jaguar Cars. It was 1980. My first year was at the training centre at the Radford plant, a grim place that built engines and axles, and the thought of which still conjures up the smell of hot swarf and suds. Having endured that, and a spell at the equally grim Castle Bromwich plant, I settled at Browns Lane.
