Donnelly reunited with Lotus 102

Martin Donnelly will be reunited with his 1990 season Lotus 102 Formula 1 car at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Martin Donnelly reunited with Lotus 102 at Goodwood House

Martin Donnelly will drive his iconic Lotus 102 F1 car up Goodwood hill this year. Donnelly will be reunited with his 1990-season challenger at the 2012 Festival of Speed, and will take part in timed runs up Goodwood’s famous hillclimb. The 102 was Lotus’s only Formula 1 car to use a V12 engine, a 3.5-litre unit from Lamborghini. It was a source of frustration for Donnelly, with seven retirements in the first 13 rounds of 1990’s F1 season, before the infamous crash while qualifying for round 14 in Jerez that ended his F1 career. The Lotus 102’s appearance at Goodwood is part of a big Lotus celebration, which will see over 40 Lotus road and race cars take on Lord March’s iconic driveway. The owner of the 102 – Andrew Morris – is unable to pilot it himself. From May 13, he’s rowing the Atlantic Ocean on his way to the 2012 London Olympics ceremony, a commitment that sees him miss this year’s Festival of Speed.
