Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic – 542bhp SVR engine for luxury off-roader

New performance range-topper joins Range Rover lineup, with new technologies across the board

Land Rover has revealed details of its most powerful, and most technologically-advanced Range Rover yet in the shape of the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic.

As that slightly uncomfortable jumble of initials and model names implies, the new model packs some Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) technology – notably, the 5-litre supercharged V8 more commonly found in the quickest Jaguars and of course the Range Rover Sport SVR.

It develops 542bhp – the highest output of any non-Sport Range Rover model to date – and 502lb ft of torque. Watching it cover the 0-60mph marker in a claimed 5.1 seconds is probably akin to watching your house doing a 100m sprint, while top speed is listed as 140mph.

Jaguar Land Rover’s SVO division has also been called upon to tweak the suspension for the ideal mix of performance and comfort, while the SVAutobiography Dynamic also sits 8mm lower than a regular Rangie. Dynamic Response and Adaptive Dynamics systems mitigate body roll and read the road surface respectively, aiding your progress down the road.

Furthermore, a series of visual changes mark out the new model from the average Range Rover, with 21- and 22-inch alloy wheel options, different side vents, bonnet finisher, grille and front bumper accents, and a set of red brake calipers for the Brembo brakes.

Performance isn’t the sole goal however: the Range Rover range as a whole also previews a series of semi-autonomous driver assistance systems suited to typical Range Rover use, including adaptive cruise control, a blind spot assist system that can counter-steer if you veer into the path of other vehicles, and even an Advanced Tow Assist function to automatically steer the vehicle when reversing with a trailer.

Low Traction Launch is also included, which helps the car pull away appropriate to the surface – whether wet grass, snow, ice or other tricky conditions.

The latest generation of JLR’s InControl Touch Pro infotainment should move things up a notch from previous Range Rover systems, with a 10-inch dual-view touchscreen, quicker responses to inputs and the ability to activate climate functions or remotely start the engine with the related app.

The Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic goes on sale from the fourth quarter, priced from £132,800.

Elsewhere the Range Rover lineup begins with the TDV6 Vogue at £76,350. Newly available in the regular range is JLR’s 3-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine, hitting 60mph in 7.1-seconds from rest.
