Jaguar F-type British Design Edition - now with extra patriotism

Red, white and blue special editions give V6 S buyers extra kit

We’re only a few days into 2016 but Jaguar has already submitted its entry for the year’s least subtle display of patriotism, with the new F-type British Design Edition.

Jaguar says the new special edition further enhances the F-type’s existing appeal with a range of visual enhancements and additional equipment. And of course, a lick of paint, replicating the colours of the Union Jack with Caldera Red, Glacier White or a new Ultra Blue shade.

If such vibrant patriotism isn’t quite your style then Ultimate Black paintwork is also available, covering a bodyshell enhanced by the Sport Design pack (usually optional on S models, standard here) and graced with British Design Edition badges on the front and rear.

A fixed rear spoiler is optional, while 20-inch Cyclone alloy wheels in satin dark grey are standard and unique to the special edition. These wear 255/35 R20 tyres up front and 295/30 R20 at the rear. Jaguar Super Performance brakes provide stopping power, finished with red-painted calipers.

British Design Edition touches continue inside. Premium Jet leather is standard throughout, with contrasting stitching – red, ivory and Reims blue, naturally. British Design Edition branding is embossed into the headrests, can be found on the centre console’s carbonfibre trim, and applied to the stainless steel kick plates.

InControl Touch infotainment is standard on all models, with a 380W Meridian sound system. InControl Touch Plus, optionally available, boosts that to 770W through 12 speakers. With the InControl Remote smartphone app, drivers will be able to unlock and lock the car trhough their Apple Watch, as well as checking fuel level, setting climate control functions and starting the engine.

That engine is the 375bhp, 3-litre six-pot of the Jaguar F-type V6 S AWD, the sole powertrain option in British Design Edition models. It’s available in both coupe and convertible body styles, with an eight-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive alone.

Pricing starts at £75,225 for the Coupe, and £80,390 for the convertible – a not-insignificant £8320 and £8000 more than the standard V6 S AWD for each model, albeit loaded with extra equipment. Deliveries begin in the Spring.
