New 187bhp Audi Q2 TFSI quattro arrives to top the range

Those seeking a higher-performance version of Audi's smallest SUV now have a petrol-powered 4x4 option - the Audi Q2 TFSI quattro

Those sold on the looks of Audi’s Q2 but underwhelmed by the existing engine lineup now have the option of a 187bhp 2-litre TFSI with quattro all-wheel drive.

It becomes both the first petrol model in the range to have the option of four driven wheels, and the most powerful model in the Q2 range - at least until an SQ2 or RS Q2 are offered.

Available in either S line or early-bird Edition #1 trim, the Audi Q2 2.0 TFSI quattro 190PS (to use its full, long-winded title) is also the quickest Q2 yet, reaching 62mph in 6.5 seconds from rest and going on to 141mph at the top end.

Along with the traction benefits of torque-distributing all-wheel drive, the Q2’s sprinting ability also comes courtesy of a standard-fit seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. As well as strong performance, some reasonable economy figures are also quoted - up to 44.8mpg and 144g/km of CO2.

S line trim includes a healthy equipment roster, with LED headlights, an exterior styling kit (with 18-inch alloy wheels), Audi connect with MMI Navigation, an LED interior lighting pack and sports front seats.

The Edition #1 goes further, with 19-inch alloys (that do drop the combined economy to 44.1mpg) and unique Quantum grey paintwork, with a black styling pack, new wheel arch trims, side skirts and bumper inserts. Inside, the range-topper also gets grey Nappa leather with brown contrast stripes and a multi-colour LED lighting pack.

You will pay handsomely for the 187bhp Q2s however, as they start at hot-hatchback money: the S line car begins at £31,760 before you start poring through Audi’s long options list, while the Edition #1 begins at £36,750 - enough to net you an Audi S3 Sportback with 306bhp or our usual choice for five-door, 300-horse all-wheel drive hatches, a Volkswagen Golf R.

The Q2 range as a whole starts at £21,360 for a petrol 1.0 TFSI in SE trim, rising through 1.4 TFSI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI powertrain options. Quattro all-wheel drive is available only on the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI models in the Q2 range.
