Audi A5 (2007-2016) review – interior and Tech

Audi’s big A5 coupé is more genteel GT than hard-charging driver’s choice

Evo rating
RRP
from £29,190
  • Handsome, finely finished and capable, a fine GT car
  • Multitronic automatic ruins any serenity, not as good to drive as rivals

Audi used to have something of a USP with its quattro four-wheel drive in this class, but increasingly it’s offered by its premium competitors. The tech featured in the A5 differs little from its intended rivals, with all manner of interior connectivity, information and entertainment options, while premium level stereo is optionally available - by Bang & Olufsen. There’s driver monitoring, while adaptive cruise control, parking assistance and a host of other safety and convenience aids are offered either as standard or optionally.

Audi has long dominated when it comes to interior design. For fit and finish, material quality, tactility, purity of design and ease of operation the A5’s is still among the very best - even bettering newer rivals. That might mean there’s a bit of a lack of flair, but regardless the A5’s a beautiful environment to find yourself in. That’s unless you’re over four-feet tall and sat in the back, as the A5’s rear pews definitely fall into the 'small child or very occasional adult use' category. The boot’s a decent size though, while cabin stowage is as well considered as the rest of the interior.
