Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo shown at Goodwood

Aston Martin has created a mid-engined V12 concept car, for the Vision Gran Turismo series. Details and pictures here

Aston Martin has become the latest manufacturer to add its contribution to the Vision Gran Turismo project, joining a growing list of carmakers including Mercedes, Mitsubishi and BMW in creating virtual machines specifically for Gran Turismo 6

Aston Martin’s design team spent six months designing and optimising its futuristic looking prototype, finishing with a car that seems to incorporate classic Aston Martin design with an overall space age looking exterior. With a sharply steeped nose featuring thin strip headlights and abrupt rear end featuring familiar Aston taillights, the DP-100’s wide and low stance rival Mercedes’ and Volkswagen’s forward thinking Vision Gran Turismo creations.

Matching those looks is a monstrous mid-mounted V12 engine, producing 800bhp – more than 50bhp up on the One-77 – and active aero. Despite both the exterior and powerplant being on the extreme side, Aston Martin claims that the DP-100 holds influence for future models in the carmakers line up, suggesting that we could one day see a production ready mid-engined Aston.

The game’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo certainly loves the prototype’s design, commenting: ‘When I first came face to face with this car at the Aston Martin Headquarters in Gaydon, I was at a loss for words seeing the level of perfection in its design. I was surprised by the bold proposal of the car being the first midship layout model in Aston Martin history. And while it is clean and classy in design, it is also very emotional.’

You can drive the Aston Martin DP-100 and other Vision Gran Tursimo cars by downloading them on Gran Turismo 6.
