Abarth 595 Trofeo Edition debuts – 250 for UK market only

Special edition references the Trofeo Abarth race series

It’s easy to lose track of all the Abarth 500 models available right now. Spend £13,885 and you’ll get a basic model with 133bhp. Play fast and loose with your chequebook and you’ll find the other end of the scale – the 187bhp Abarth 695 Biposto, at £33,055 before you add its most desirable options.

Arriving somewhere closer to the former than the latter is the new Abarth 595 Trofeo Edition, for £15,150. Currently, it’s also available for £199 per month after a £1865 deposit.

That money gets you £1275 worth of extra equipment for £540 over a standard Abarth 595, with three colour options – Record Grey, Scorpione Black and Officina Red, and a range of additional specification features that lift it above the regular version.

Admittedly it’s more visual than practical – a set of 17-inch ‘Formula’ alloy wheels join dark-tinted rear quarter windows, Trofeo Edition badges, a carbon-effect decal set and colour-coded brake calipers on the spec list.

The engine remains unchanged – Fiat’s venerable 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol sits under the bonnet, producing 138bhp at 5500rpm and 152lb ft of torque from 2000rpm.

The 0-62mph sprint is competitive with Mini Coopers, Adam Grand Slams and similar at 7.9sec, with a 127mph top speed and 43.5mpg combined economy. Just 250 examples will reach the UK.
