Volvo Concept XC Coupe revealed

Volvo has revealed a new coupe SUV Concept, which previews the next-generation XC90, to be shown at Detroit. Pictures and details here

Volvo has released pictures of its latest design study, the Concept XC Coupe, ahead of its launch at the Detroit motor show. The design study follows on from the P1800-inspired Concept Coupe from last year’s Frankfurt motor show, and will be followed by a third and final concept later in the year.

The three concepts have been designed to demonstrate the adaptability of Volvo’s new SPA or Scalable Product Architecture. The Concept XC Coupe shares a lot of influence with the earlier concept too, but a higher roofline, raised ride height, wider wheel arches and new 21-inch wheels give it a much more of a coupe SUV appearance.

Described by Volvo as a more ‘rugged’ car, the XC Coupe is packed with high-tech sports gear and a stylised roof box. The front of the car features a pair of T-shaped daytime running lights either side of the new floating grille: destined to make production on the next-generation of Volvo road cars.

Volvo says that the new platform features extensive use of high-strength boron steel, which allows the adjustable architecture to be more compact and lightweight, without compromising on safety.
