Volkswagen launches green Scirocco

Volkswagen unveils cleaner Bluemotion versions of its sporty Scirocco and Passat CC models

Volkswagen has extended its Bluemotion range to include the Scirocco and Passat CC. Both models now benefit from revisions to their 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine, with improvements to fuel economy and a reduction in CO2 emissions. The Scirocco Bluemotion now features stop/start tech and a battery regeneration system enabling fuel consumption to climb from 55.4mpg to 62.8mpg on the combined cycle for the manual model. CO2 emissions also drop to 118g/km from 134g/km and allow the Scirroco to drop two tax brackets to a £30 annual rate. These improvements are enough to see the VW gain advantage against a coupe rival, the Honda CR-Z, in the fuel consumption stakes and run the sporty hybrid close on CO2 emissions without the use of hybrid tech. The CR-Z hits 56.5mpg on the combined cycle and emits 117g/km.  VW’s 167bhp 2.0-litre diesel fitted to the Scirocco GT also sees revisions with economy improving from 53.3mpg to 55.4mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions reduced from 139g/km to 134g/km.  Bluemotion variants of the Passat CC replace all existing diesel versions of the four-door coupe, again seeing improvements to fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions. Fuel economy for the 138bhp car rises from 50.4mpg to 60.1mpg on the combined cycle and there’s a cut in CO2 emissions from 146g/km to 125g/km.  All Bluemotion models are available to order right now.
