  • Doesn’t live up to the GTI name

Interior and tech

The inside of the Polo GTI is adorned with all the usual touches you find in the bigger Golf. That means plentiful tartan and red stitching. None of it ever feels tacky or over the top however and every single touch point is as premium as Volkswagen can manage.

The result is an interior that is perhaps the most solid in its price segment, with quality at a paramount. Those wanting something more quirky may prefer the likes of a Mini Cooper S.

Ergonomics are absolutely spot on as are the driving position, making the Polo GTI a very good place to sit indeed.

In terms of technology, option the more expensive 'Discover' navigation system and you do get a 5.8-inch touch screen as well as the likes of Bluetooth phone pairing. Graphics could do with being higher resolution, but overall VW's in car tech system is one of the best in the business.
