Volkswagen Golf GTI Wolfsburg Edition revealed

Volkswagen has revealed the 374bhp Golf GTI Wolfsburg Edition at the Worthesee tuning festival. Pictures and details here

A group of 12 Volkswagen apprentices have created a one-off high performance Golf GTI for the Worthersee Fan Meet.

Increasing power from the standard car’s 227bhp by a substantial 147bhp, the now 374bhp 2-litre turbo four GTI benefits from a carbon air-box, hand-welded stainless steel exhaust and a vacuum valve control system – enabling exhaust and engine notes to be adjusted.

The team of 12 – made up of four young women and eight young men – chose to give their hotted up GTI a bold exterior to match. A black and red colour scheme is joined by lightweight OZ Superleggera wheels, aggressive front spoiler and lowered stance.

Inside, the Wolfsburg GTI features Recaro bucket seats and rear bench with red and black leather upholstery, as well as side bolsters covered in GTI tartan. The steering wheel matches with red and black leather, whilst high gloss trim features sprayed on GTI logos. To create much of the interior’s bespoke parts, new technology like 3D printing was put to good use.

With such a young group of apprentices (aged between 18 and 23) providing ideas for the project, it’s perhaps unsurprisingly to hear an 11-speaker, 2170-watt sound system with a subwoofer and LED-lighting are included. Passengers can also be entertained by a Playstation with a 24-inch LED-LCD TV, giving this GTI a suitably ‘pimped’ feel.

Other Volkswagen Group manufacturers bringing apprentice lead cars to Worthersee include Skoda, the Czech-German carmaker having brought the Citijet urban sports car to the annual show.
