Volkswagen Golf GTI cabriolet UK prices

VW prices the summer friendly cabriolet version of its Golf GTI hot hatchback

Volkswagen has announced prices for its new Golf GTI cabriolet following its launch at the 2012 Geneva motor show. Prices start from £29,310 – a massive £3990 more than the regular VW Golf GTI hatchback – for a six-speed manual equipped car, rising to £30,610 if you’d like a six-speed DSG twin-clutch transmission. The car uses the same 207bhp, 207lb ft 2-litre turbo unit as the other mk6 Golf GTIs, helping it to reach 62mph in 7.3 seconds – 0.4sec slower than the lighter hatch – and continue onto a top speed of 147mph (146mph in a DSG-equipped car). The cabriolet features the same styling tweaks over standard Golfs as the standard GTI, gaining 18in, ‘Monza Shadow’ alloys and the famous red-trimmed front grille. Inside the car has standard tartan cloth upholstery, with leather seats available as an option. The Golf cabriolet’s soft-top roof takes 9.5 seconds to fold away and can be operated up to speeds of 18mph. Orders are being taken now for the convertible GTI, with the first cars delivered in July.
