Oettinger TCR Germany Street – a 355bhp VW Golf GTI

German tuning house Oettinger has treated a VW GTI to a host of upgrades, which has been revealed at the 2018 Wörthersee meet.

Renowned German tuner Oettinger has unveiled its TCR Germany Street, which is based on the current VW Golf GTI, at the 2018 Wörthersee GTI festival. In keeping with the event theme, Oettinger’s latest creation adopts a custom look and features a raft of modifications.

Work on the Mk7.5 GTI’s eminently tunable EA888 engine has boosted power and torque to 355bhp and 347lb ft respectively – up 128bhp and 89lb ft over the standard GTI – though Oettinger has so far neglected to detail how exactly it realised these substantial gains. That said, such increases are conceivable when you consider Oettinger offers higher-specification packages that claim to take the 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder past 450bhp.

Oettinger has disclosed performance figures for the TCR Germany Street, however: 0-62mph takes just over five seconds – placing the car on a par with a Golf R – and the top speed is 170mph. To haul the car down from such speeds, 380mm ventilated brake discs have been fitted all-round, sitting behind 20-inch wheels wrapped in low profile tyres.

It’s not just power that’s swelled, though. A pumped-up bodykit widens the car by 80mm with new front and rear wings. Further visual and aero enhancements include the functional-vented bonnet, roof-mounted spoiler, front splitter and side skirts. It’s safe to say that the standard GTI’s discreet, Q-car aesthetic is gone.

Inside, fewer changes have been imparted. The only one to note is the installation of racier, Recaro seats, which are better bolstered and lighter than the standard-fit items.
