VW CC

Volkswagen has announced pricing for the new Passat-based CC, with the revised coupe-saloon set to go on sale in the UK in April.

Buyers will need deep pockets, with the range kicking off at a weighty £24,200 for the entry-level 1.8-litre TSI with a manual gearbox, and rising to £30,100 for the range-topping 2-litre TDI DSG in range-topping ‘GT’ trim. That’s a rise of over £3500 over the previous Passat CC TDI GT, although the supplement is – as always – officially justified by higher standard kit.

And the toy count is certainly impressive, with all versions getting a touchscreen satnav system, DAB radio, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity and bi-xenon headlights. ‘GT’ trim adds leather, adaptive chassis control and all-round parking sensors.

Only two petrol and two diesel engines will be offered in the UK, all four cylinder, with the slow-selling 3.2 V6 from the last version having been axed. Instead buyers will be able to choose between 1.8 and 2-litre TSI petrol engines with 158bhp and 207bhp respectively or – more likely – two 2-litre TDI diesels in 138bhp and 168bhp states of tune.

Some good news is that – on prior experience - the 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine at the bottom of the range is a cracker, combining strong performance with decent fuel economy.
