Toyota GT86 Cup Edition

The Toyota GT86 Cup Edition apes the one-make series racing car with 18in alloys and new exterior styling

The Toyota GT86 has been given the Cup treatment. The Cup Edition – on sale in Europe, and limited to 86 units – apes the one-make series variant of Toyota’s rear-drive, boxer-engined coupe. Its changes are stylistic, with new 18in OZ Ultraleggera wheels which get Pirelli P Zero Corsa GT tyres. With a 225/40 profile, they’re likely to prove far stickier than the regular GT86’s 215/45 eco-minded tyres. The exterior gains a white, red and black colour scheme to match its racing relatives while the interior gains Alcantara on the wheel and dashboard and a numbered plaque behind the gearknob. The mechanicals are untouched, meaning a 197bhp flat-four naturally aspirated 2-litre engine and a 7.5sec 0-60 time. Your 2860 euro premium (around £2500) also includes VIP tickets to a customer event at the Nurburgring. It’s a fitting venue, as the GT86 Cup race series begins there this weekend. The TMG GT86 Cup will run as part of the ‘Ring VLN series in 2013. The UK won’t see the Toyota GT86 Cup Edition on sale, the company’s efforts focused on the GT86 TRD, which is on sale now. The 250-off limited edition is priced from £31,495, and also gains 18in alloys, a choice of white or black paint, a more assertive body kit and minor suspension tuning. See our Toyota GT86 review here
