Subaru Impreza WRX STI tS Type RA edition

The tS Type RA is a special edition Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and it could be the last

Subaru has announced the Impreza WRX STI tS Type RA. It’s a special edition for the Japanese market car only, and it could even be the final edition of the current generation STI. Coming painted in Tangerine Orange Pearl, Satin White Pearl or Blue Mica, the Type RA will certainly stand out from its forerunners. A splitter, gloss black accents and LED indicators integrated into the door mirrors round off the visual changes from the standard STI.

Inside the car there are sports seats while tS logos feature prominently on the sills, with leather now clothing the steering wheel. Handling wise there are revisions to the struts, springs and dampers with a front tower brace, a new quicker steering ratio and Brembo brakes turning the car into an even sharper driver’s tool.

If you want your tS Type RA STI to be even more distinctive, the Nurburgring Challenge Pack will add Recaro front seats, a large carbonfibre rear spoiler and Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tyres mounted on 18in forged BBS aluminium wheels.

Power looks set to come courtesy of the Japanese original’s turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder engine, powering all four wheels with 302bhp/290lb ft, transferred via a six speed manual gearbox. The 0-60mph dash will take about 4.5sec and the car will go on to a top speed of 155mph.

Sadly the car will not be coming to Europe or the UK, while it costs the equivalent of £30,000 in its home market. Only 300 will be built, 200 featuring the NBR Challenge Pack. If it turns out to be the last version of this iconic car, it feels like a suitable way for the current WRX STI to depart.
