Skoda vRS models to be Octavia only in future

Proper performance Skodas limited to Octavia for the time being

The Skoda Octavia vRS will be the only full-fat performance car offered within the brand’s product line up for the forseeable future.

Future Skodas will instead adopt either Sportline or Scout versions as trim options, keeping proper performance upgrades exclusively to the Octavia.

A recent drive in the Octavia vRS 230, Skoda’s most powerful vRS ever, revealed a fairly impressive drive. More power (now up to 227bhp), an electro-mechanical limited-slip diff and quality standard kit, saw the beefed-up Octavia rewarded four stars in our review.

That said, Skoda will still produce powerful cars. The just announced Superb estate can be specced with a 276bhp 2.0-litre TSI motor, the same unit found in the Seat Leon Cupra.

Skoda has seen significant successes with the latest-gen Octavia vRS. Globally it accounts for roughly 10 percent of all Octavia models sold, while in the UK it's even higher at 25 percent.

Future products including a larger SUV, potential crossover and the replacement Yeti, will instead adopt either standard, Sportline and Scout options.
