Rolls-Royce 200EX

The new Rolls Royce sports saloon with get a V12 turbo with over 500bhp

More details of Rolls Royce’s all-new saloon have been revealed. The 200EX is set to be a far more dynamic and athletic proposition than the luxury limo Phantom, despite not being massively smaller.

Its sporting intentions are rammed home by a brand new engine – one which is unique to Rolls Royce. It’s a 6.6-litre turbocharged V12, which is set to boast over 500bhp. It will be mated to a ZF automatic gearbox boasting eight speeds, putting it on par with the Lexus IS-F.

By comparison the Rolls-Royce Phantom uses a naturally aspirated 6.75-litre V12 with 453bhp (and a six-speed ZF auto), and is good for shifting the 2.5-ton car to 60mph in 5.7sec and onto a 149mph top speed. The more powerful 200EX will be lighter, too, so should be noticeably sprightlier.

The 200EX concept was revealed at the Geneva motor show, and is currently on a rather rock’n’roll sounding ‘World Tour’, visiting numerous cities (and potential customers) around the globe. It’s in New York at the minute, with Singapore (3-4 April), Miami (19-20 May), LA (26-28 May), London (9-11 June) and Cannes (2-4 July) to come. The car itself will be launched late in 2009.
