Renault Sport Clio 220 Trophy review - Is the turbocharged Clio finally any fun? - MPG and running costs

The new Clio gets a facelift, a new exhaust and the Trophy becomes a proper production model

Evo rating

from £22,425
  • Tenacious and grippy chassis, but one that’s still fun
  • Lacklustre drivetrain and lifeless steering make it hard to enjoy

The official MPG figure for the Trophy is 47.9, exactly the same as the standard Clio 200. As you would expect from a turbocharged engine, driven hard and that figure plummets. evo's old long term Clio 200 would average 31-32mpg, so you should expect something similar from the Trophy.

Renault offers a 4 year warranty with its new cars so that should provide some peace of mind. It should be noted, although not likely to be an issue for most, that the last two years are limited to 100,000 miles each.

One of the biggest expenses unique to the Trophy will be tyres. The 205/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, although great from a dynamic perspective, are not cheap; expect to pay £160 or more per tyre.
