Porsche Panamera priced

The new Porsche Panamera sports saloon will kick off at £72K for a RWD V8

Panamera first drive!

Porsche has announced the pricing for its initial Panamera range. It'll set you back more than a BMW M5 or Audi RS6, but is about on par with an equivalent Maserati Quattroporte.

Things kick off at £72,226 for the 400bhp, V8-propelled Panamera S which gets rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual as standard, with Porsche’s double clutch PDK transmission a £2289 option.

Next up is the Panamera 4S, which weighs in at £77,269 and adds all-wheel drive and PDK as standard. The AWD is controlled by Porsche Traction Management (PTM), which uses a multi-plate clutch to adjust power distribution across the car.

Topping the range is the £95,298 Panamera Turbo, which mates AWD and PDK to a 500bhp V8. As well as offering full-on four-door supercar performance – 188mph and a 4.2sec sprint to 62mph – it gets adaptive air suspension, which actively adjusts ride height, and a trick 14-speaker Bose Surround Sound stereo.

All models get Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a leather interior and a sport button. The latter increases throttle response, puts the PASM into sport mode and sharpens up changes where the PDK ‘box is fitted. Perhaps that’s for when the owner switches from being driven in the back to driving themselves…

Cars with PDK also get a start/stop function that kills the engine when the car is stationary. The car goes on sale in the UK on September 12 2009. You can read a more in depth look at what the Porsche Panamera offers here.
