Porsche Cayenne – design

Now one of the more attractive luxury SUVs, the Cayenne belies its size with clever detailing and a subtlety missing in some rivals

  • Dynamic breadth; quality; significant leap in tech
  • Interior is bland for the price

Where once the Cayenne was seen as a stain on the automotive design landscape, so now it is actually one of the more subtle, sophisticated and attractive large SUVs on sale. This is particularly true of the latest car, which features a revised nose, new body panels and a redesigned lighting arrangement inspired by the Taycan.

Matrix LED headlights are standard fit across the range, with HD Matrix units available as an option. Porsche’s now trademark rear light bar is also an essential part of design, with a lower positioning for the rear number plate giving the facelifted model a cleaner look.

The flagship Turbo E-Hybrid is distinguished by subtly reprofiled bumpers with body-coloured lower sections and sills, but specifying the optional GT Package takes things much further.

Available exclusively with the swept-back coupe bodystyle, this brings a 10mm drop in ride height, twin-exit titanium exhausts and a carbonfibre roof and diffuser, mirroring the now-discontinued Turbo GT model. For sheer presence, it's easily a match for BMW's X6 M, if not quite as eye-popping as the Lamborghini Urus S.
