Porsche Boxster to get Club Sport treatment

Porsche has been spied testing a lightweight version of its Boxster

The Porsche Boxster GTS could be going on a diet in potential Club Sport spec, as a lightweight development car is spotted winter testing.

Based on the hottest GTS, the Boxster would likely produce the same 325bhp from its 3.4-litre mid-mounted flat-six engine. But after shedding mass and receiving a harder chassis setup, the more focused Spyder should reduce the standard GTS’ 5sec 0-62mph sprint time.

Spy shots confirm little more than a lightly restyled front-bumper and larger intakes and vents – mimicking those on the GT3 RS - will signify the car’s more track-oriented character.

An updated version of the current Boxster will go on sale later this year, with the lightweight Club Sport-esque car to follow in 2016. The Club Sport name was most recently made famous on a lightened version of the 1993 Porsche 968. Such were its talents, it ranked fiftieth in our 100 greatest drivers’ cars countdown.
