Porsche 911 Targa (991, 2014-2016) review - Prices, specs and rivals

An impressive package that sits above the convertible in dynamic terms

Evo rating
RRP
from £87,025
  • Better than a cabriolet, more exotic presence than coupe or cab, tractable engine
  • Wind noise, added weight, is it really a GTS?

Prices, specs and rivals

The Targa 4 costs £87,025 but as is the way with Porsches, it's the options that drive the car up into the properly premium price ranges.

A GTS, for example, is £104,385 while just about any interior options come at cost. Mobile phone connectivity is a £446 option.

For those who want to make the interior of their Targa feel anything less than a little dour, you'll need to start playing around with things like deviated stitching and leather options, which is where costs start to really add up.

The GTS does pick the best bits of the 911 options list and and does look somewhat of a bargain for what you get. It may cost £7325 more than a Targa 4S, but this includes bi-xenon headlights, Porsche Dynamic Lighting system, 20-inch 911 Turbo S wheels, as well as Sport Chrono and PASM adjustable damping; and, of course, that 423bhp 3.8-litre Powerkit engine.

Rivals include the Maserati GranCabrio or a Jaguar F-Type V8 S, the former isn't a patch on the Targa while the Jaguar is a very different driving and ownership experience, being far more raw and less refined than the Porsche.
