Porsche to auction final 991-series 911 in aid of Covid-19 fundraiser

Porsche’s last 991 build number will be auctioned with proceeds going to a community response charity in the US

Porsche’s very last 991 911 build will be going under the hammer at a special online RM Sotheby’s Auction, with proceeds going to the United Way Covid-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund. The fund assists those in the US that are at most risk, giving life-saving food, financial and housing assistance amid the financial crisis that has created the biggest unemployment spike in America since the Great Depression.

To help raise money for the fund, Porsche has decided to auction off the final build slot of the 991-generation 911, alongside a money-can’t-buy behind the scenes tour of Porsche’s Weissach development HQ, including an on-track experience with Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser and Andreas Preuninger, the heads of Porsche’s 911 and GT model lines. As well as this unique experience, the lucky auction winner will also receive a matching heritage design chronograph timepiece from Porsche Design.

The 911 itself is a limited-edition Speedster fitted with the heritage design pack. As one of just 1948 units, it combines the unique combination of a GT3’s racing-derived powertrain and six-speed manual, with a bespoke two-seat open-top design with a lower header rail and large carbonfibre clamshell.

As unit 1948, it completed its journey down the production line in December of 2019, and will be the very last 911 of its generation to leave the factory, save for a few late model Speedsters still being completed by Porsche’s Exclusive division.

Dr Walliser, vice president, 911 and 718 product lines, commented: ‘Not only does this mark the end of what, for me, was a special era, but it’s especially rewarding that the last car to reach the end of the line should be the ultimate – the Speedster combined everything we learned and is the 991 in its purest form. I hope this really unique car can make a big difference to those who need help right now – and that the fortunate buyer enjoys it and drives it as we always intended.’

The auction opened for bidding on RM Sotheby’s website from 4pm GMT yesterday, and will close at 6pm GMT Wednesday 22 April. There will be no reserve and it will sell to the highest bidder once the auction has closed, finishing off 991 production by helping those in need in one small way.
