Porsche 959 joins €8 million auction lineup at Techno Classica

Several iconic vehicles will cross the block at the German classic car event in mid-April

International auctioneers Coys have lined up a dazzling display of over 60 classics - worth €8 million - for the Techno-Classica show in Essen, Germany, on Saturday 18th April.

Held at one of the worlds largest classic car shows, the auction will see vehicles such as a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE (estimated from €285,00 to €350,000), a 1960 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead by H.J Mulliner (€240,000 to €300,000) and a 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS Spyder (€250,000 to €300,000) go under the hammer.

Chris Routledge, Managing Partner of Coys, said, ‘The auction at Techno-Classica Essen is one of the most well established classic car sales in the world and headlines Coys’ positions as the leading international auction brand in Germany.’

Of particular interest is a 1988 Porsche 959 Coupe. An unarguable milestone in Porsche’s history, the innovative ‘80s supercar has become an essential part of any serious Porsche collector’s garage.

As one of a limited run of just 250 cars, it is unsurprisingly offered in excellent condition. Routledge says of the car, it is ‘very much the new darling for Porsche collectors and very rare too.’

Another star entry is a 1955 300SL Gullwing, which, thanks to factory servicing and restoration work at Mercedes’ Stuttgart Classic Centre in 2011, is regarded as one of the finest examples around of the iconic coupe. It is estimated at an eye watering €900,000 to €1,200,000.

Those with an eye on pre-war metal will be interested in the BMW 328 Roadster, discovered as a project in Germany a decade ago, and, having been brought over to the UK for restoration (being worked on by TT Workshop in London and Bristol Engineering in Wiltshire), is estimated at €480,000 to €600,000.

Other notable exotica include a 1980 BMW M1 (est €275,000-€350,000), a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB (€125,000-€160,000), a 1971 Ferrari 365GT 2+2 (€140,000-€180,000), a 1963 Maserati Sebring (€120,000-€150,000) and a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (€50,000-€60,000).

The auction takes place on Saturday 18th April at 3:00pm.
