Episode 29: Driving Bugatti's final W16, the EV U-turn and Linglong tyres
In episode 29 of the evo podcast, editor-in-chief Stuart Gallagher joins deputy editor James Taylor, editor-at-large John Barker and senior staff writer Yousuf Ashraf for a a catch-up on what the team have been driving.
John talks us through the enviable task of assessing the final W16-powered Bugatti, the open-topped Mistral. Yousuf also discusses his experience driving the wild Ford Mustang GTD, an 800bhp+, two-ton monster with GT3 aero and eyes on the 911 GT3 RS’s crown as the ultimate track special. James, true to form, has been spending time in rather more delicate, more focused hardware, regaling us with his thoughts on a drive in the BAC Mono Cup.
Then back in the land of reality, the team discuss what seem to be the beginnings of a car industry U-turn pertaining to EVs, with Porsche the latest to seriously reshuffle its strategy with a renewed range of combustion cars leading up to the end of the decade and beyond.
The concluding topic of this week’s episode is performance tyres. James reflects on how a track slick changes the behaviour of a car diverted from road to track use, while John reflects on his years of tyre testing and how road rubber has evolved.
