First official pictures of the 350Z successor from Nissan

A fan of the Nissan 350Z? Then no doubt you'll be a fan of this, too. In a move more traditional of a premium German manufacturer, Nissan has gone for evolution over revolution with the new Z-car.

It's a wise move though, as despite nearing six years old, the 350Z is no bad-looker and still appears quite fresh. The 370Z moves the game further though, with a shorter wheelbase and neater rear overhang combining with muscular wheel-arches and a more hunched rear to give the Z a taut, squat look to emphasis its sporting credentials.

They are backed up by a meatier engine, growing in size from 3.5 to 3.7 litres, promising extra go and perhaps a cleaner, slightly more economical drive. Nothing too green-friendly, but a clean-up seems necessary to make a £30k V6 coupe attractive in the current climate. The same idea could signal a V6 diesel version of the Z for the first time, a car which would take the fight to the Audi TT TDI.

The 370Z will be at the LA Auto Show on November 19, while there'll be a replacement for the 350Z roadster a little later on. You can read more about the new Nissan in next month's evo Magazine, out November 12.
