Porsche has announced details of four-wheel-drive variants for the 997 Carrera line-up. The Carrera 4 and 4S will both be stretched by 44mm across their rear haunches, allowing larger rear tyres to be fitted; 295/35 ZR18s on the less powerful model, and 305/30 ZR19s on the S. Both variants have the multi-disc viscous coupling of the previous Carrera 4, transferring between five and 40 per cent of tractive force to the front wheels when the rears start to lose grip.
