Super Saleen

Saleen has added twin turbos to its S7, creating a 750bhp monster

The American supercar also now boasts 700lb ft of torque at 4800rpm and a claimed 0-62mph time of 2.8sec. It is said to hit the ton just 3.2sec later, and pass the quarter-mile post at 136mph after just 10.7sec. As if this wasn't quick enough, there are rumours of a 1000bhp intercooled version in development.

Visually, the 2005 S7 appears to receive only minor tweaks, with a new rear spoiler and diffuser and a lightly restyled front bumper. However, the company claims the adjustments have not only resulted in a 40 per cent drop in drag, but also a 60 per cent increase in downforce. The suspension has new dual-stage springs, which provide a softer ride at low speeds but stiffen as the aerodynamics start working beyond 100mph. The water-cooled turbos strapped to the 7-litre V8 are a joint venture between Saleen and Garrett and produce a light 0.38bar of boost. Oil squirters have been added to cool the undersides of the pistons and, although it is still relatively high, the compression ratio has dropped to 11.0:1 from 12.0:1 in the naturally-aspirated version of the car. The new S7 costs around £286,000 which is a £62,000 hike over the old 550bhp model.
