Red Bull F1 2009

Red Bull's RB5 Formula 1 car is revealed for the 2009 season complete with explanation video

The Red Bull Formula 1 team has unveiled its 2009 challenger - the RB5. It's the latest F1 car to be unveiled as the grid gradually fills up for the new season, which starts at the end of March with the Australian Grand Prix.

This is arguably one of the better looking cars so far revealed, too, perhaps thanks to its striking Red Bull livery that takes attention away from the boxy proportions enforced by new rules. Team driver Mark Webber has previously described it as the best looking 2009 car. You can judge for yourself with our rundown of the others.

Webber himself wasn't able to take the car out testing today - he's still recovering from a broken leg suffered in a cycling accident. Instead, teammate Sebastian Vettel took the wheel of the Renault-engined RB5 for the first time. If you're wondering why there's no rear shots, it's because their has been some controversy surrounding the rear diffuser of both the Williams and Toyota 2009 cars, with the Red Bull RB5 thought to be afflicted too.

'The current FIA view is that Williams and Toyota have been clever and exploited the wording of the rules in a clever way,' said FIA President Max Mosley. 'The view on our technical people is that it is okay, we will wait and see if someone challenges it.'

You can read an insight into the new 2009 F1 grid and the variety of new rules and regulations in evo 128, on sale now. You can also view Red Bull's explanation of the new developments on 2009's F1 cars.
