Booming convertibles, Renault revival and Bugatti event in Russia

One sector of the car market that’s still booming is convertibles. Much of the success can be put down to the popularity of folding metal hard-tops but fabric versions are making a comeback. The global market is expected to expand a further 35per cent by 2011.

RENAULT plans to revive the Alpine marque for a new ‘premium’ sports car that it hopes to introduce in 2010. Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn is keen to transfer as much F1 technology as possible into new, high-performance cars and reckons the Alpine name is the perfect way to differentiate them from regular Renaults.

BUGATTI attended the Moscow Motor Show and held an event for potential Veyron owners at an ex-military runway. The perishingly cold day ended with 10in of snow on the ground, but they still managed to sell four Veyrons at a cool £1.2m each.
