evo Trackdays: evo Trackday report - Brands Hatch

March 27th at Brands Hatch saw the first evo Trackday of the season, and the with it the first Trackday Hero of the Day – Ross Culver!

A fantastic array of cars turned out under the gleaming Kent sunshine, from the big (David Spencer’s Monaro) to the small (Matthew Guest’s Brabus Smart Roadster), from classics (Peter Bowyer’s MGB) to modern supercars like the Ferrari 360. A few special mentions must go to some of the drivers on the day…

Firstly to Edmund Conran, who was not only on his first ever trackday, but was also in a car he’d only owned for a week – a beautiful Porsche 964 RS.

Secondly to Charles Lowe in his menacing all-black Porsche 997 GT3 that, despite only having 200 miles on the clock, was one of the fastest cars there.

But our hero of the day has to be Ross Culver, who turned up in his Range Rover Sport towing a trailer – with nothing on it! It turned out that his freshly home-built Caterham Academy Seven had been dropped off at Caterham for its SVA test the day before the trackday, but Ross had been told that some additional work was required that would mean his car wouldn’t be ready for another two days. Yet rather than miss out on the trackday, Ross decided to unhitch his trailer and take his Range Rover round Brands to see if it would live up to its ‘Sport’ badging.

After spending the morning undoubtedly having fun standing the Rangey on its nose on the approach to every corner and surprising a couple of his fellow drivers, there was some good news for Ross: Caterham had managed to get his car ready earlier than expected, meaning he could go from one extreme to another and take his three-mile-old Seven out for the afternoon session.

So congratulations to Ross, well done and thanks to everyone who attended. You all helped make it a great day, and we hope to see you all again later in the season.
